Arjan Rietveld‘s ‘Hypnotised’ series returns with its first sub-genre edition. ‘Hypnotised presents Balearic Trance’ runs 27 tracks across nearly four hours. The compilation maps the White Isle’s most iconic trance moments. Notably, it lands on May 5 as the brainchild of the author behind the genre’s definitive written history.
The package stitches together undisputed classics. Chicane, Solarstone, Tiësto, Three Drives, Energy 52, Ferry Corsten, Armin van Buuren, Rank 1, Svenson and Gabriel & Dresden all feature. Meanwhile, deeper crate-dug selections anchor the mix. Dove Beat’s ‘La Paloma’, Goldenscan’s ‘Sunrise’ and Mr. Sam vs Tim Coltrane’s ‘One More Day’ sit alongside the anthems.
Crucially, the release splits across three discs. Disc one maps the 1990s origin point. It opens with Chicane’s ‘Already There’, the overture to ‘Offshore’. Three Drives’ ‘Greece 2000’, Nalin & Kane’s ‘Beachball’ and the Rank 1 remix of York’s ‘Reachers Of Civilization’ land early.
Disc two, subtitled ‘Indoor’, drops into the year 2000 peak. Armin van Buuren’s ‘Burned With Desire’ with Justine Suissa sits alongside the Gabriel & Dresden mix of Andain’s ‘Beautiful Things’. Furthermore, Lightscape’s ‘Inner Warmth’ and Estuera’s ‘Tales From The South’ reinforce the nostalgic drift.
Disc three, ‘Outdoor’, opens with Michael Woods’ remix of Energy 52’s ‘Café Del Mar’. Solarstone’s ‘The Calling’, Moonman’s ‘Galaxia’ and the Sunset Mix of Rank 1’s ‘Airwave’ follow in chill form. Still, the circle closes on Hemstock & Jennings, Leama and Planisphere.
In short, ‘Hypnotised‘ now moves from country-by-country mapping to sub-genre deep dives. The Balearic edition kicks off that new direction.
